Hello cosmic lovers- I'm so excited to share this new column with you! Cosmic Chat is a conversation with metaphysical practitioners about the role astrology plays in their world. I’m featuring one sacred artist every month. We'll talk current astro, planning by the stars, astrology as a spiritual practice, and even their own birth charts!
It's a huge honor to have Theresa Reed a.k.a. The Tarot Lady as my first guest. Her razor-sharp Tarot readings are fabulous and her business savvy is second to none. Oh… and did I mention she raps?
In her own words:
Theresa Reed (aka The Tarot Lady) is an intuitive Tarot reader, teacher, mentor and yogi on a mission to take Tarot from hippie to hip. When she’s not reading tarot, she’s busy helping broke-ass mystics learn how to create sustainable + profitable businesses. If you are ready for straight talkin’ tarot and a side of biz whizz, get to her online hood: The Tarot Lady or follow her on Twitter
What's your favorite part of your birth chart (if you had to choose)?
Probably my Sun - I love being a Gemini and would never want to be another sign. I'm serious when I say that! Geminis are fun and they rarely get bored because they have so many different interests. We're always reading, learning, DOING. I also like that my natal Sun is conjunct Mercury - this amplifies that Gemini goodness. Throw Jupiter (also in Gemini!) and I'm a triple twin threat!
You've got not one but 2 T-squares in your chart! This is a notoriously tough aspect. How do you work it to your advantage?
The thing with T-squares is this: they either drive you to do great things or they drive you mad. I'm of the mindset that if you have a challenging aspect, you need to learn how to work WITH it. Some of the most messed up people have 'em and so do some of the most successful. Mine are mutable so if I want to make the most of those T-Squares, I have to be mindful that I do not scatter my forces too wide. Learning how to stay put and finish a task is very important for my own personal evolution or I risk being a big time flake.
Because I'm a classic Gemini with all sorts of mutable action and six Mercury ruled planets, it's easy for me to be a whirling Dervish of too many irons in the fire. I've had to learn to manage my time well and to say NO to things I don't like to do. I have a lot of wanderlust so it's not been an easy route but thankfully, my uber grounded Virgo husband helps a lot.
I've also found that my particular T-squares seem to amplify my ability to communicate complex spiritual information to the masses in a lingo that is quite easy to comprehend. So I write constantly and work very hard at being a good communicator.
With 3 planets in Virgo (Mars, Pluto, and Uranus), I know you're all about systems and preparedness. How do you use the stars as a tool for planning?
I always check the cosmic forecast before I launch any major project. I pay attention to the Moon in particular but also to slower moving planets to help me time things to my advantage. I also keep an eye on Mercury retrograde - with six planets in Mercury, I have to. Things seem to go haywire for me if I don't.
My life and business are both rigorously scheduled and astrology plays a big role in that. Without a structure in my life, I run the risk of letting those T-squares move me in a cray-cray direction and I won't have that!
At the beginning of the year, I mark out all the favorable and unfavorable times on a giant wall chart. That helps me to plan my biz in a way that aligns with the stars but also keeps me on track. I love feeling like I have a clear road map for my empire and astrology gives me that.
How does your knowledge of astrology inform your work as a Tarot reader?
As a tarot reader, it's always important to know which days are low energy for me so that I don't over schedule when I should be resting. As an intuitive tarot reader, my work is highly guided by Moon action so if the Moon is in an unfavorable aspect to my chart, I tend to keep my work load lighter. When I'm in high gear and full of cosmic juice, I work like a fiend and make the most of it.
Does astrology play a part in your spiritual practice? If so, how?
Not really. My spiritual practice is pretty much limited to yoga and meditation. Astrology doesn't have much to do with that. Well, at least I think it doesn't but who knows? Maybe it does and I just haven't delved there yet!
